The schools don’t work and many companies also take a break. That’s why I and my parents can do whatever we like starting from the end of December. This year we’ve decided to stay at home. Last year we spent our winter holidays in Saint Petersburg and had a wonderful time there with some of our distant relatives. Nevertheless, my mum thinks that holiday spent at home can also be fun. Winter is rather snowy this year, so I spend lots of time either sledding or skiing with my friends. Other than that, I help my mum with household chores, especially with cooking. We need many tasty dishes for New Year holidays. I’m glad there are several winter events to celebrate. First of all, it’s New Year, of course. We are planning to have a festive dinner and to invite our relatives over. Secondly, on the 7th of January we are celebrating Christmas. We are going to make a Kutya (sweet rice with raisins) and treat people, who visit us and who sing carols on Christmas night. Approximately on the 12th of January my winter holidays finish and I have to go to school again. However, the celebration of special events continues till the end of the month. On the 19th of January it’s Epiphany Day. My dad usually has a steam bath on this day and then dives into an icy hole. He says it keeps him in good physical condition. Next comes my mum’s birthday. She was born on the 25th of January. Together with my dad we make her day special. We normally buy a bunch of flowers, many balloons and a birthday cake for her.
