The territory of the district stretches from the Malaysary ridge of the Zhetysu (Dzungarian) Alatau along the Ili to the southern shore of Lake Balkhash. It includes the Saryesikatyrau desert in the north, the Taukum sand valley in the west and south. The terrain is mostly flat. The largest river in the district is the Ili. Its branches flow into Lake Balkhash, forming old canals and ponds. Вот
